“Yet what Mister Strickland has done by creating the modules and videos to help us through the lessons and even the reflections have helped me get an almost an A average in physics which I was so excited about because I can easily say I understand what is going on. It’s not just notes and a quick lecture but it’s actually easy for me to take my own notes and find what I have no clue about and then go and get help.”
“Through all this though I have no problems with physics and don’t mind at all what we do because I can fully grasps what’s happening, it is a huge relief to understand something like this something I could actually really and truly use in everyday life.”
“the video instruction and having time to complete our modules and assignments has helped me out so much. It gives me time to complete the things I have to do by giving me a few days to do them. The videos we watch also help me out a lot. Whenever I need help on one of my assignments, I can just go to the website and watch the videos again instead of me having to go to the teacher and asking him for help.”
“The flipped classroom makes life so much easier and has reduced an amount of stress that I cannot even begin to explain. Last year I was constantly stressing over how I was going to get it done or what to do. This year I have plenty of help and I don’t really have to stress about having something done and turned in the next day. Another thing about the flipped classroom is if we all tell Mr. Strickland we don’t understand something, he will get the whole class together and explain it to us to where we understand. When he gives us a brief complete explanation of something, it makes it so much easier to get out work done.”
“Having more time to get our work done has been a tremendous part of getting past all the frustration and stress. Being able to just take notes and have class time to do all of it helps a whole lot. I feel like giving me a week to get an assignment done helps more than one or two days. The more time I have, the better I can do. When I have homework that’s due the next day, I feel like I have to just throw something together and hope the teacher likes it. It’s not like that in Physics though, we actually have time to take good notes as well as understand what’s going on in the classroom. The videos also make a big change and help to us. Having videos to watch instead of staring at the teacher in front of the classroom, falling asleep, we have them online to copy into our composition books.”
“I feel that having a flipped classroom is one of the greatest things on our Campus. I love it and wish every teacher would do it. It helps us improve our grades and feel confident in the work we have. I also feel as if I’ve gained more knowledge doing things the way we do them. Modules make us use our brain to process and think things through; you can’t just memorize the answers like you do on Study Island. Videos make life so much easier, especially when you miss class for a game or something else, you always have it right there to copy down. This year hasn’t been the easy and I still don’t understand a lot, but I do understand more than I would if he just handed us something and expected us to get it done when we are clueless.”
“I feel less stressed when I can go about the assignments at my own pace and have readily available, easy to follow resources. Being able to watch videos for notes that I can return to once something has slipped my mind keeps me from stressing out when I can’t remember an important part or find some bit of information in my notes. Also, being able to message Mr. Strickland when the video doesn’t answer my questions is very helpful. It also helps knowing that, if I give everything my best and still don’t do well, I may retake a test and keep my grade from plummeting do to a misinterpretation or forgetting a detail.”
“In Chemistry, I did all my homework and got good grades, but I didn’t really learn anything. This year, I feel like I have learned so much, especially in my Physics class. Mr. Strickland has a really good program where the first thing we do is watch a video that he makes as we take notes in our lab journal, then sometimes he will set up a lab for us to do, finally he gives us modules to do. Just the way things ordered makes the lesson so much easier to understand. Mr. Strickland is always looking for a way for us to LEARN something. In chemistry last year, I just took notes and prayed I passed the tests. In Physics, the program drills the information in your head from the modules.”
“The main thing that we do is modules and they are a pain in the butt at times but since we do them in class most of the time we can get him to help us if we need it.”
“Having a week to complete an assignment is amazing, it takes the stress of having to do all that homework in one night and if I don’t understand or have any questions I can ask the next day in class.”
“The modules are a great idea, I love them. I like the idea of “making” someone succeed. You do the lesson until you pass and if you don’t pass and you just quit, you get a zero. Everyone wins!”
“To be able to watch video instead of listening to the teacher in front of the class is so much better. Because, when we go to do our modules we’re able to go back and refer to the video and the notes that we took when we watched the videos. Also, cause your be able to watch the videos on your own times. You’re in in no rush to finish taking them and you can also be a neat as you can be, so, you can read what you wrote. I think that making videos takes off the pressure/stress for the teachers, because instead of them standing up in front of the class and teaching. They can be walking around to see the students working, to be able to explain the question that we may have, and to have class to help us with our modules & take time to go over stuff.”
“With a ton of work and activities going on, it helps to be able to do our “in-class” work on our own time. By doing this, we are able to do more labs and hands-on activities that help us grasp the concepts while having fun. Plus, when we do our modules and notes on our own time we can work together as classmates and get different points of views without it being considered cheating because we have to understand everything to pass the modules”
“Therefore After being in school this year for a semester, it feels like time has just flown by and I am having the best time of my life.”
“Having more of an extension on work also gives us time to take in what we are learning and it actually sticks, it’s not as if we are learning just for the test and then after the test it’s gone.”
